STATE INSPECTIONS

State inspections are required by the state of Pennsylvania and expire annually. Inspections that expire on the last day of the month can be done three months in advance (for example, inspections expiring on the last day of March can be done in January, February, and March). State inspections check the overall safety of the vehicle. Tire tread, brake readings, suspension, exhaust and general safety are checked as part of the inspection.

Emissions inspection

Emissions inspections are required for vehicles registered in Allegheny, Beaver, Mercer, and Westmoreland counties and are done at the time of state inspection.

Oil changes, lube and filter

Oil changes are an important part of vehicle maintenance, as regular oil changes help maintain engine performance. Included with oil change:

  • Replacing recommended oil
  • Replacing the oil filter
  • Checking the air filter
  • Inspecting and topping off all fluids under the hood
  • Checking belts and hoses
  • Inspecting tire pressure and wear or tire tread
  • Checking entire undercarriage

Tire Rotation

Regularly rotating your tires also gives you a good opportunity to visually inspect them for damage, check their air pressure, have them rebalanced if you’re noticing any vibration, and check their tread depth.

Tire Replacement

Tire life can be shortened for the following reasons:

  • Strenuous driving routines, stop and go city traffic, road construction, etc. Bumpy surface and pot holes
  • Under inflated tires
  • Worn Shocks
  • Unaligned wheels
  • Worn elements
  • Not rotating your tires

Wheel alignments

Wheel alignment is the position of the wheels relative to your car. When properly aligned, the wheels point in the right direction. Without proper alignment, the wheels resist your steering commands, as well as each other. Alignment also affects gas mileage and tire wear. If your tires are pointed in different directions, they fight against each other and can cause tread wear. Proper wheel alignment is integral to maintaining your vehicle.

Reasons to get an alignment:

  • You experience vibration when turning
  • The steering wheel pulls to the left or right
  • The steering wheel is not straight when driving on a straight roadway
  • Your tire tread is wearing unevenly
  • Protecting your investment of new tires

Pre-purchase vehicle check

Are you in the market for a new vehicle but not sure if it is in great condition or mechanically sound? A pre-purchase vehicle check looks over the vehicle for safety components and overall good condition. Getting your vehicle checked out by a mechanic before purchasing would truly help you in determining if the vehicle you are potentially purchasing is a good investment.
